Association of Pakistani-Descent Gastroenterologists of North America (APGNA)was founded in July 4th, 2014 in Washington D.C. at annual APPNA annual summer convention.
APGNA constitution was approved in October, 2014 by at teleconference meeting.
The first general body meeting unanimously elected Dr Ghulam Mujtaba as first and founding President for 2015 with Dr. Waseem Aziz President-elect, Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq as a General Secretary, Dr. Mohammad Asim as Treasurer and Dr. Arif Muslim as an Executive director. Council members were Asif Virk and Hashim B Nemat. The second meeting of APGNA was held in Orlando, Florida at APPNA summer convention in August, 2015.
APGNA CME committee was formed in Jan, 2015 which consisted of Bilal Hameed, Asif Azeem and Abdul Jabbar.
APGNA in collaboration with APPNA conducted first “Therapeutic Endoscopy” workshop at Nishtar Medical University Hospital Multan, in 2014 at APPNA winter meeting. Dr. Arif Muslim, Abdul Jabbar, Ghulam Mujtaba played an instrumental role. Subsequently, therapeutic works were conducted again at Nishtar Medical University Hospital in 2016, 2018 and 2019. Dr. Bilal Hameed represented and participated with APPNA merit program for GI/Hepatology live lecture for Pakistani medical institutions.
In January, 2018 APGNA formerly adopted Hepatitis C Initiative of APPNA. Dr Bilal Hameed volunteered to spearhead this project.
In 2018, Annual meeting took place in the side sessions of APPNA summer convention in Dallas, Tx. In November, 2018, In-conjunction with AASLD, APGNA has arranged a meeting which was attended by more than 50 Pakistani origin Hepatologists and Gastroenterologists. Dr Bilal Hameed organized and Chaired the meeting. Hepatitis C Eradication from Pakistan was the main agenda of this program.
